Myofascial Release

Myofascial ReleaseIt’s All About Balance

Your pelvis is the foundation of your body. If your hips are  imbalanced then your shoulders are off, your neck is being pulled off center; you are in pain.  Myofascial Release allows stretching of the fascia that is pulling your hips up and/or forward or back, restoring your pelvis to balance. It is the LASTING solution for a pain-free life.

Back, neck, shoulder and knee pain start deep in your connective tissue. Myofascial Release uses gentle sustained pressure to relieve pain, restore flexibility and improve mobility and posture.

Myofascial Release, or MFR, is a safe, gentle but extremely deep form of massage that helps reduce or eliminate chronic pain, improve posture, and increase range of motion. It works by returning the “jerky” textured restrictions in your fascia back to their natural gel-like state. Fascia is the spidery web that permeates and covers your muscles, bones and organs.  The fascial web exists body wide from head to foot without interruption.Without it we would not hold our shape!

When the fascial system is injured, it loses its fluidity, tightens, and solidifies, which we call a “restriction”’ causing pain and reduced range of motion. Trauma, injury, stress, repetitive motion, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

We are essentially liquid beings, with our bodies comprised of over 75% water. During treatment, gentle sustained pressure is applied into the fascial restrictions. This uninterrupted pressure (piezoelectricity, or “pressure electricity”, from the Greek) into the system for a minimum of five minutes literally “melts” the restrictions, allowing the areas that have become dense and hard to regain fluidity. Other modalities miss this essential time element that allows the web to open.

MFR never forces, and therefore can never injure! The key to lasting results and the graceful beauty of the John Barnes method of Myofascial Release (JFBMFR) is this waiting for the body, in its innate healing wisdom, to restore balance and fluidity!
